Stove Installation
In essence there are two types of flue system in common use in the UK today.
The first is a re-lining of an previously built brick chimney. In this case,
the steps involved are briefly this:
(Click on the small pictures to enlarge them)
- We get a coil of liner a little longer than we need
- The liner is then fed down the chimney from the top. This can be quite a difficult
process depending on how good the access is to your rooftop. We'll sometimes employ
cherrypickers or simply use ladders. This is why the site survey is important.
- A register plate is built into the chiney opening in the room. This is
where the flue and the liner connect. The register stops heat escaping up the
chimney and holds the flue in place.
- Back at the rooftop, we make good the liner exit using some cement to secure it.
- It is then
covered with a rain cap. In the picture, we've used an anti-down draft cowl and also covered the other open pots (Exeter in the background)
- Finally, inside the house we've been busy at work making good the fireplace, setting the hearth perhaps, and fixing your new wood burner to the flue. You've now got
a beautiful addition to your home that will provide you with years of warmth and happiness!
Other Flue Systems
Where there is no chimney, we often use a twin walled, insulated stainless steel system. Locking sections of the flue are assembled as necessary to provide a suitable and safe system.
Below is an example of work using this stainless steel system
